Old Mining Towns in Arizona

For the traditional old western destination, Oatman and Chloride are the perfect destinations. Old rustic saloons, wild donkeys, and cowboys! Oatman is a small town in the Black Mountains of Mohave County, Arizona. It was a thriving gold mining town in the early 1900s but declined after the mines closed. Today, Oatman is known for its wild burros that roam the streets and its historic charm.

Chloride is another small town in Mohave County, Arizona, known for its rich mining history and well-preserved ghost town. It was founded in the 1860s and was once a bustling silver mining town. Here, you can even take part of an old school western shoot out reenactment ( Weekends only.) How cool is that!

Oatman and Chloride are about a 1 hour drive from each other via Co Hwy 10/Oatman Hwy and US-93 N. I highly recommend this trip for some old western fun. Also, if you love animals, the wild donkeys at Oatman were my favorite part!
