Welcome to Nature Deprived Blog

Welcome Nature Lovers! If you are like me, you spend every moment of free time with mother nature. My most favorite nature center is Flat Rock Brook Nature Center. It is only 20 minutes from me, literally 35 minutes from the middle of New York City! Founded in 1973, this non profit beauty is packed with trails, creeks, waterfalls, bridges, and even an adopt- a – raptor program.  This Englewood Nj nature center has tons of kid and adult friendly programs throughout the year, so be sure to follow them on social media or become a member at http://www.flatrockbrook.org/join. My kids and I took a trip yesterday to visit the nature center. My kids are ages 11 and 7 and LOVE coming here! On our last visit, we took the red trail. It loops all around the 3.6 miles of trails and you get to see the brooks, bridges, and even a playground! If you need to get away from the tv’s or xboxes, I HIGHLY recommend this place. It is so close to the city, yet you feel so far away. Perfect for a day getaway. The nature center building itself is highly educational with interactive activites for children. Some cool interactive activities for kids.   They even have  turtles in tanks that you can see taking their daily swim. VOUGUE Pond at Flat Rock Brook next to the nature center building. There are so many turtles, frogs, and tadpoles swimming around. Just look at this little fella in the mud at this pond. When I took this picture I didn’t even see the second little frog peeking his head out of the water. That is some good camouflage! Little cuties… Quaint picnic gazebo right next to nature center building. Perfect for lunch! Map of the trails at Flat Rock Brook These are the new trail markers. I like how they throw some bigger destinations in there. Let’s go kids! Taking a moment… to breath in.. relax.. and enjoy some quiet! We ran into this little deer while on the red trail.  We were within 10 feet. The playground/picnic area. Fun slides, rope climbs, and rock wall. These are the winged friends that belong to the Adopt- a – raptor program. The birds are well taken care of in these aviaries. Unfortunately they are permanently unable to fly so cannot be released into the wild. So grateful Flat Rock takes these beauties in to have a home.  Predatory birds such as red tailed hawks, owls, and more call Flat Rock Brook home.
