Only 75 minutes from Manhattan, NYC
As a Weehawken NJ resident, one of our annual town trips was to Tomahawk Lake in Sparta Township Nj. Only about 1 hour from Weehawken, NJ (75 minutes from NYC), this lake is full of fun. Admission prices are between $12- $17 dollars. To ride the various water slides, you must purchase an additional wristband. For younger riders ages around 7 years of age, stick with the shallow water slides. That wristband is $11 dollars (they do take cards for admission and wristbands, so no worries.) For more thrilling water slides, you can the the deep water wristband for only $2 dollars more to go on ALL water slides- $13 dollars.
Let me tell you the water slides are SO FUN! I was not expecting to have to much fun at Tomahawk Lake. First of it is a man made lake, so there are ZERO closures due to the algae like other New Jersey Lakes. Also, parking is super easy and close to the beach so no need to schlep a mile to the water. Their bathrooms are clean and have mirrors to check your crazy lake hair too. Moreover, the sand at this lake is beautiful white sand. Also not the fine grain sand, but nice chunky glittering white. It is super soft on the feet to. While Lake Tomahawk is man made, there are fish, turtles, and more lurking in the water. In my opinion, it gives you the man made fun such as white sand, water slides, bathrooms and showers, but with the nature feel.
The water slides are set in the forest. Who doesn’t love walking around on moss to get to the next water slide? That beats concrete for me ANY DAY! This was my favorite thing about Tomahawk Lake. Big fun like a water park, but set in a forest atmosphere. I felt extremely safe since there were various lifeguards at each water slide. Tomahawk Lake also has canoeing, small individualized motor boats, paddle boats, and a pool. I LOVED IT!
Did I also mention they do have food like burgers, french fries, and chicken nuggets. Parents get ready for this because they also have a BEER GARDEN! Yes, an open beer garden that accepts credit cards as well. Lake Tomahawk has got my vote! See you soon.
