If you are in the NYC area, the north region called the Adirondacks is stunning! The Aidrondack region itself is roughly 6 million acres, and there are various regions. My most favorite region is Lake George. Lake George is 3 1/2 hours from NYC. Lake George was formed about 10,000 years ago when a melting glacier blocked an ancient river bed which headed south from the Northwest Bay Brook to Bolton to the Hudson River and another river flowing north from the Narrows area into Lake Champlain. With no escape, the waters from the two rivers rose & created the “Queen of American Lakes.” Lake George is roughly 28,000 acres, over 200 feet deep, 32 miles in length, and 4 miles at its widest point.
Here, you will be able to unwind, enjoy the small town charm, and enjoy the lake! From boating, fishing, horseback riding, golfing, museums, sunbathing, kayaking, shopping, and hiking, Lake George is one you will not want to miss. Did I mention Adirondack Extreme Adventure Course, or zip 3,700 feet down a mountain at Eagle Flyer Zip Line! So for the adrenaline junkies, you can have your fix too! For someone like me who just wants to unwind and take it all in, there are many cute places to stay. Because we are a family with two kids, and a fur baby, there are also pet friendly places so bring the pooch. I can highly recommend Colonial Court in Bolton Landing and also Huddle Bay Motel also in Bolton Landing. They both were accommodating with dogs and Huddle Bay Motel even had a private beach and dock, perfect for docking your boat or jet skis. I also want to mention the beer garden that is right across the street. Yippie!
Antique enthusiasts are welcome! Next door to Huddle Bay there is an old horse barn that is converted into an antique store. Although it was quite on the expensive side it is worth a look. Even the building itself is worth seeing. You can imagine the horse carriages coming in and out of the arch ways. So, even if your like me and living in an urban jungle like NYC, you can get out there and explore your outdoors!
